You are an interior designer, you have great taste, and you need to ensure you can get your work in front of potential clients. You set up a website, did your research and made sure you prioritized good SEO. Now you can finally be done with it, right?! Unfortunately, it’s not so simple–You NEED ongoing SEO.

There are a few reasons why building out a robust and continuous SEO strategy can be the difference between being flooded with clients who have seen your work and love it, and no one seeing it all. Here at Wingnut Social, we pride ourselves on being the kind of marketing agency that ensures the former.

In this quick article, we are going to go over some of the reasons why you need ongoing SEO. Let’s get started.

“Can I Just Run Ads?”

When SEO seems like a foreign concept, It’s reasonable to think that you might be able to just boost posts or run other paid ads instead of having to address SEO. The truth is that “I’ll just run ads” is a bad strategy. This is because up to 80% of users ignore paid ads. 75% of users never scroll past page one of search results. Are you ready for this? SEO leads have a 14.6% close rate, while outbound leads have a paltry 1.7% close rate. That’s a significant amount of missed business.

The point is this; there are things in business you can get away with not knowing but SEO is not one of them.

There are a few reasons why building out a continuous SEO strategy can be the difference between being flooded with clients who have seen your work and love it and no one seeing it all. Let’s look into it further.

Someone Needs to Monitor Results

Your SEO might have been optimized when your website launched, but how well is the SEO you’ve invested in working? Some of that original SEO you thought would work could be performing poorly. You could be leveraging a more successful strategy. Ongoing SEO services allow you to compare strategies and determine which one performs better. Through ongoing SEO, you can make the adjustments necessary to ensure that the most critical pages of your website will show up on the first page of search results.

Your Competition’s SEO Has Adapted

If your competition is working on its SEO, you better be too! Your competition could start outranking your business on search result pages, costing you sales. If your competition starts ranking for keywords that you used to rank for then changes need to be made. This is where ongoing SEO comes in to keep you ahead of your competition. If you go down in rank on a keyword from 2 and now you’re at 10, you need to update your page or you will lose traffic or you will continue to freefall. This is where keyword monitoring is essential!

Search Engine Algorithms Are Always Changing

Google’s algorithm favors recency and activity. Therefore, you need to add constant content and pages to your website. There is no such thing as “set it and forget it” with SEO.

Google is always trying to improve its services and grow its market share. These changes include the algorithms for ranking websites. According to Moz, Google changes its search algorithm approximately 500-600 times yearly.  Most of these changes are insignificant, but some are major changes that affect search results. Accordingly, any successful results of SEO work done in the past can be negatively affected, making ongoing SEO even more important for your business. For our customers here at Wingnut Social, we stay up to date on all of those changes so you don’t have to, but if you are on your own, you should seriously consider spending some time reviewing these

“I Use Google Analytics. Is that Good Enough?”

Google Analytics and Google Search Console are great starting points to begin your ongoing SEO journey but as you expand your knowledge of SEO, don’t be afraid to incorporate more technical, robust and specific tools to help you get more granular in your strategy. Take a look at Moz or SEMRUSH as a next step. These websites are incredible educational resources that break things down in a digestible way.

Final Thoughts: Ongoing SEO

People often say that SEO is the “foundation of your house.” While this is true in terms of its importance, it is not something you do once and then move on. A better analogy is that of a new race car. You have it all gassed up and before you know it, your SEO is on the track and is competing. Maybe in the first few minutes, you aren’t going to run into any problems, but eventually, that car will run out of gas. It will need maintenance or it will break down.

At the very least it will not perform as well as it could, which gives competitors an opportunity to pass you. Without ongoing SEO, you will see a decrease in traffic, lower search rankings, fewer leads, and less revenue. To assume that you don’t need to update your SEO is to assume customers’ tastes and preferences don’t change, which is of course, false.

There are always updates within your industry that can be leveraged for growth using SEO. On top of this, search engines are constantly being updated as well. The point is this; there are many correct ways to leverage SEO that can have a big impact on your business and it’s important to capitalize on these wins because if you don’t, your competition will.
