How to Choose a Social Media Agency for Interior Designers

Hiring a social media agency is a big decision for an interior design firm. Your Instagram is often the first place a potential client sees your work, and the wrong partner can make a beautiful portfolio look generic. This guide covers what to look for, what to ask and what it should cost, so you can compare agencies with confidence, whether or not you choose us.

1. Look for design-industry specialization

General agencies can post consistently. A design-focused agency knows the difference between a styled vignette and a finished room, understands trade relationships and vendor tagging, and writes captions that sound like a designer, not a retailer. Ask how many of their current clients are interior designers, architects or home brands.

2. Ask who actually does the work

You should know who’s writing captions, who’s responding to comments and who’s reviewing results with you. Look for a dedicated account manager and a team with real design and marketing backgrounds.

3. Make sure strategy comes before posting

A good agency starts with a strategy: your ideal client, your positioning, content pillars and goals. Be cautious of anyone who starts posting in week one without that foundation.

4. Check the scope, especially community management

Posting is only half the job on Instagram. Ask how often they respond to comments and DMs, whether they engage with your ideal clients’ accounts, and whether Reels, Stories and paid ads are included or extra.

5. Ask how they measure success

Followers are nice. Inquiries are better. Ask what they report on each month and how they connect social activity to consultation requests and projects.

6. Understand pricing and commitment

Expect specialized, full-service management to run about $3,000–$5,000 a month, with lighter hybrid options starting around $1,500. Many agencies also charge a one-time strategy fee and ask for a 6- to 12-month commitment, since Instagram growth takes time. 7. Look for proof from firms like yours

Ask for case studies and testimonials from design businesses at a similar stage. Look at the agency’s own Instagram too: if they can’t grow their own account, be wary.

Questions to ask on a discovery call

  • What share of your clients are in interior design or home?
  • Who will manage my account day to day?
  • What does your strategy process look like, and how long does it take?
  • How much community management is included?
  • What will I see in a monthly report?
  • What’s the minimum commitment, and what happens if it isn’t working?

How Wingnut Social fits

Wingnut Social has worked exclusively with interior designers, architects and home brands since 2018, and our work has been featured in AD PRO, Business of Home and Designers Today. Every full-service engagement starts with a three-week Social Media Strategy Blueprint, and our Instagram and social media management options range from a strategy your team carries out, to a hybrid plan where we create the content and you post it, to full-service management. Our own social channels reach more than 18,000 followers, including 12,600 on Instagram.

“Since partnering with Wingnut, I went from 200 followers to 4k+ and I’m growing every day. Without a good online presence, a lot of my new clients wouldn’t have reached out to me.” — Liz Potarazu
